ApprovePro vs Proofer vs Upproof

ApprovePro, Proofer and Upproof are Shopify apps for getting a customer’s approval before you make a custom product. In short: ApprovePro is the team-oriented option with Shopify Flow, an API and a Built for Shopify badge; Proofer is the longest-running and has the most reviews, plus a free plan; Upproof is the new one, built around the customer uploading artwork on the product page and approving a numbered proof tied to that order line.

Upproof is our app, so read this with that in mind. Every row below comes from each app’s own Shopify App Store listing, checked on 7 October 2026. Where a listing does not mention a feature we write “Not listed”, which is not the same as “cannot”. Plans change, so check the listings before you decide.

Listings: ApprovePro, Proofer, Upproof.

When ApprovePro fits

You have a team: several staff users, outside designers who should not get Shopify access, and workflows you want to automate with Shopify Flow or an API. ApprovePro’s listing also covers draft orders on its Premium plan and reminder and auto-approval notifications, and it carries the Built for Shopify badge.

When Proofer fits

You want the most established option, or a free plan for up to 10 orders a month. Proofer has been on the App Store since 2019, has the most reviews of the three, lets you upload proofs from the order dashboard, and connects to Zapier, Make and Gelato.

When Upproof fits

Your customers send their own artwork, and the mix-ups happen between that file, the proof and the order. Upproof starts earlier in the flow: the upload happens on the product page and is attached to the order line at checkout. You then send up to three proof options on one private page, a new version retires the previous approval link, and the approved version is checked against the current order before production. It is new and has no reviews yet, so test it on a real order during the trial.

How to decide in an afternoon

Install the two that fit best and run the same test order through both: two lines with the same variant and different files, a revision, and a quantity change after approval. The full checklist is in nine questions to ask a Shopify upload and proof app, and the workflow behind it is in artwork proofing for Shopify stores.

Questions

Which is cheapest for a small shop?

By the listings on 7 October 2026, Proofer’s free plan covers up to 10 orders a month and Upproof’s free plan covers 5 proof jobs a month. ApprovePro has a 14-day trial and paid plans from $14 a month.

Which one lets customers upload artwork on the product page?

Of the three listings, only Upproof describes a customer upload on the product page that is bound to the order line. ApprovePro mentions customers attaching files with their feedback; Proofer does not list a storefront upload.

Is this comparison neutral?

No. Upproof is our app. To keep it fair, every row comes from each app’s own Shopify App Store listing, with the date we checked, and features a listing does not mention are marked “Not listed” rather than “No”.
